Dear Bananarchists,

As you are all aware, the frozen banana is a marginalized dessert in our society today. While ice cream, cookies, and cupcakes are all allowed to spread their influence throughout the restaurant, food stand, and education systems, the frozen banana has been kept from the public eye, forced to exist as an anomaly in a few parts of the country like Austin and Balboa Island, or more widely as awful grocery store do-it-yourself kits with imitation chocolate. Though there are disputes concerning the cause of this marginalization, we can all agree that it is a problem that needs to be brought to the attention of the public and our government officials.

For this reason, we are calling for the first Bananarchist protest in Austin. It will take place on Saturday, March 6, 2010 beginning at 2pm on the Congress Avenue Bridge sidewalk. We would like for at least 500 people to participate. At the protest we will distribute traditional Bananarchist headgear. Signs, chants, and Bananarchist literature will probably be involved.

If you want to participate, please SEND AN EMAIL to laura@bananarchy.net with your name and the email address where you want to receive information. (We will not use this for any other purpose besides communicating with you about the protest.)

If your conscience isn’t enough to encourage you to participate:
Every tenth person who commits to participate and subsequently shows up at the protest will receive a coupon for a FREE banana (halfsie). Everyone else who participates in the protest will receive a buy one banana, get one free coupon. Encourage your friends to RSVP by email or Facebook so they can participate, too.

Let’s see if we can change this town for the better by raising our voices as one!

Yearning for you,
Laura

P.S. On an unrelated note, Bananarchy will be reopening on Monday, March 8.
